Le Concerto n° 2 pour piano et orchestre (…), Robert Helps, né en 1928, le composa en 1973 en deux mois seulement. Il fut créé six ans plus tard, en 1979 avec Richard Goode au piano.
La partition est en un seul mouvement, à la fois concis et éthéré, où la virtuosité de la partie soliste semble en apesanteur sur un tissu orchestral d’une densité toute relative.(...)
Dirigeant l’orchestre symphonique d’Albany, David Alan Miller trouve le ton juste pour ces partitions colorées et flamboyantes.
Son interprétation est un modèle de finesse sans jamais tomber dans une surcharge dynamique, plombant, malheureusement trop souvent, nombre d’œuvres américaines.
