Robert Helps’ Memo on Symphonic form

Helps would have been horrified by the thought that his symphony, for all its personal introspection, resembled the bloated theologico-philosophical ruminations of, say, late Bruckner. He actively (and hilariously) sparred this interpretation by circulating the following fake memo among his friends.
